Not what I intended!

I decided that I would spend some time working on my drawing skills.  I hoped that an improvement in my drawing would provided a sounder basis for painting.  Thus I intended to practice placing shapes in relation to each other, basic perspective, value patterns and tone.  To my surprise, I entered some sort of meditative state and ended up with this drawing of a corner of my garden.  It took me ages and was completed over several days.  However, I think I did incorporate some of the practice elements that I intended – and one that I had not thought about.  I think I may do better with negative shapes now!  I am still going to continue with drawing practice but I doubt I shall be spending so much time on each drawing!

Garden JUL 11

(Actually, I think this may have been some sort of displacement activity – I know what I should be practicing but have not yet plucked up courage…!)

Wow! There are great details in this piece, and I would say time well spent there =) I think if your garden can express in words, it'd sound like "Thank you! I am so proud to be me because of you!"

Wow, the intricacy of all the plants and leaves is absolutely awesome. Love when it happens, that the drawing takes over and time disapears : )! Whatever was your first intention, at least you still have the drawing and the memory of good time spent doing it!

It's so beautiful! You did a stellar job with the negative spaces, and the detail is just wonderful. I love it when I enter the "zone" when I'm drawing. That's the best part of doing it for me! nancy

This is stunning! A fine portrayal of a very complex subject. And so well done - which means the values must be right. It is also, of course, beautiful to look at. Bravo!
